Let us tell you a story about sunsets. When we first found this land, someone gently said: «But there are no sunsets here».

Sumbawa is still off the radar. Even people who’ve lived in Bali for years sometimes confuse it with Sumba. So, almost zero tourists, especially in our east part. But this island sits right next to the famous Komodo National Park, which, among other things, is known for its spectacular sunsets.

Our cliff faces the other way. Here, the sun rises straight out of the ocean. In the evening, it slips behind the hills. No dramatic dip into the sea.

Locals were thoughtful about that. «People love sunsets» they told us with some concern. They weren’t sure if land without a sunset would feel special enough — or if we’d even want it. It even became one of the bargaining arguments from our local friend who helped us to close the deal with the best price.

But we never saw it as a loss. Sunrise always felt right — especially for a retreat. And the evenings? Just look. The light still comes. Not in a single moment, but stretched across the sky. Soft. Spacious. Lasting.

We’re proud to share that our eco-retreat is bei

We’re proud to share that our eco-retreat is being built by a multi-island Indonesian team. Our first priority is our village community — we already have more than 10 people from Poja, our mother village in East Sumbawa.

We also work with teams from other parts of Sumbawa, along with wonderful neighbors from Lombok and Flores. The roof specialist is from Sumba. Bamboo, architecture, and solar warriors — all come from Bali. And the lead construction boss comes from Java. It’s a mix of islands, a mix of religions and a mix of hands and hearts coming together to build Ocean Mantra — and we’re deeply grateful for each of them 🇮🇩 ❤️
